Center of Tienanmen Square as I saw it walking into the square.

Mao Zedong, the founder of the People's Republic of China, is preserved and on display in this building on the Tienanmen Square.

Close up of one of the two statues flanking the building that houses Mao.

Their congress in housed on the square.

Me in front of one of the congress buildings. The Chinese are more focused on aesthetic appeal than we are. I saw this artisticness not just in public places like this but also in the individual work of the teachers in the classrooms and in the paper rose I received from a BNU student.

Standing on the other side of the square from where Mao is housed.

Close up of the Chinese flag before the ceremony began.

Soldiers marching in.

Soldiers in training marching in.

Removal of the flag for the night.

The crowd watching and taking pictures of the lowering of the flag.
