Day 3 -- Middle Zhijang Road Kindergarten

A huge outdoor space with a wider variety of toys and structures than I usually see at centers in Lincoln, NE.

Shoes are only worn on hard floors.  There are foot prints next to any soft floor or carpet to remind the children to take off their shoes.

image

They are so into using recycled materials that the shelf is made of cardboard boxes.

image

Painting projects are left out so that children may paint whenever they want to rather than it being a special activity that all the children have to do at a specified time.

They were making flowers out of paper cups.

image

Music is a large part of Chinese education.

image

There were lots of labels to show children where to put things away independently.

image

They made a toilet that the children could practice flushing and learn not to be afraid

image

This kitchen set is made of foam board.  The teachers made nearly everything.  Very few things are purchased.

image

Mazes seem popular in kindergartens in China.  This one used metallic contact paper to cover the cardboard boxes.

image

This marble maze was made by the teachers.

image

This is a telephone game that the teachers made.

image

image

Music in another classroom.  The teacher had the computer set up so the children could see themselves on the tv.

image

Another shadow puppet show.

image

image

A board where the kids hung the cups with pipe cleaner hooks.

image

This center has a very large block room that the classes can take turns using.

These children are painting self portraits.  Again, they are free to paint when they wish with minimal supervision.

The teachers in China seem to like hanging ribbons to divide space in a room or in doorways.  This teacher used strips of paper.
