This morning we slept in. I feel much more rested now. We bought breakfast from a street vendor. I chose a savory bread that was pan fried. It was good, but I liked the bread better last night. Then we walked to a store where we bought ECNU t-shirts. I also bought some cheap pens that have Chinese characters on the side for my girls.
Julie and I decided to try Burger King to see what was the same or different about it. My whopper jr could be a comparison of a school hamburger versus a hamburger I'd grill out in the backyard. Just not as good. I probably won't order it here again. The fries and Pepsi tasted the same. People looked at us odd when we dumped our trays and then we noticed that everyone else was leaving their trash on the table. On the way back to our dorm, we started crossing a street and a bus honked at us and drove right in front of us. We waited and then walked across the street. It is so weird for the traffic to have the right of way rather than the pedestrians.
Our seminar this afternoon with the Chinese students was interesting. We heard a gal perform a common opera piece, another two gals played a traditional Chinese instrument that reminded me of a guitar/harp, and a guy demonstrated calligraphy. We each spoke about what we got out of the trip. I shared about how I was for the first time in the minority and not able to understand a word of what was said around me. It was very eye opening to be different than all those around me.

This picture shows everyone in our group with all the ECNU students that will be coming to UNL in October.
