Day 6 -- WenMiao Kindergarten

image

Their playground was organized into specific activities that the children followed the rules for.  It was not free play.

They had sinks outside for the children to use.

There are footprints on the stairs to show which side you need to walk up/down on.

This classroom had many independent activities that the children did to work on specific skills.  Here the children are buttoning circles onto the flowers and butterflies.

The room was very full of materials organized on the shelving.

Carrie and Sarah are playing doctor with the girl.

Every preschool teacher learns to play the piano as part of their college curriculum.  Every classroom I saw had a piano.

An empty classroom showing how organized it was.

This umbrella had holes cut out of it.  The balls were made of crumbled paper wrapped in tape.  The streamers were held together with a little clothespin.

They fed fish to the cat.

image

They fed snakes to the frog.

image

They fed crayfish to the crab.

image

The ring toss game was made with shoe boxes and Pringles cans.

Their sensory activities room was amazing.  It is intended to help children with special needs, but it would be awesome to have this available to all children.

The principal of the school gave a presentation and the ECNU Dean of Preschool and Special Education translated for us.  The Dean is the man facing the camera sitting at the corner of the table.  The funny thing was that the principal insisted we all receive an agenda, but it was in Chinese and none of us could read it.  She shared some interesting case studies of students they have worked with in their school.  In both of these pictures, I am in a red shirt sitting at the back corner of the table.

Our group includes the second and front row:  Cara (yellow shirt), me (red shirt), Sarah (black shirt), Montana (beside me), Shelby (beside Sarah), Julie (striped tank top), April (beside Shelby), Tonia (black and white shirt), Michelle (blue and white shirt), Director of the kindergarten, Dean of SpEd at ECNU, Chinese Student, Jon (tall white guy), and Carrie (sunglasses on head).
